MFL - French

At Nutgrove, we are passionate about giving children the opportunity to learn a modern foreign language from an early age. Our French Curriculum, based on the Primary Languages French Scheme, is carefully designed to be progressive, helping children develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in French as they move through the school.

The curriculum focuses on practical communication and cultural understanding. Through engaging lessons, songs, games, and interactive activities, children learn to express themselves, understand basic instructions, and explore French vocabulary and grammar in context.

Our approach ensures that children:

  • Develop confidence in speaking and listening, using French in meaningful situations

  • Read and write for different purposes, building vocabulary and grammatical awareness

  • Gain an understanding of French culture, traditions and everyday life

  • Experience fun, hands-on activities that make learning enjoyable and memorable

We aim to nurture learners who are:

  • Curious and confident in using a new language

  • Able to communicate effectively in everyday contexts

  • Appreciative of other cultures and perspectives

  • Prepared for lifelong language learning

Through our French curriculum, children not only develop the skills to communicate in another language but also gain confidence, creativity and cultural awareness — essential skills for life in our increasingly global society..
