School Curriculum

Curriculum Statement

Nutgrove is a Methodist Aided Primary School and as such, Christian values and RE are at the heart of all our curriculum and teaching. Staff and Governors believe that each child should have equal access to a rich, broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum.  Excellence in teaching and enjoyment of learning is fundamental to the learning experiences we offer at Nutgrove.  The curriculum will be well matched to pupils’ ages, abilities, interests, aptitudes and additional needs.

Our School Curriculum

Each year group’s curriculum is planned according to creative curriculum themes based upon the following key areas of learning: –

  • Personal, social and emotional development.
  • Communication and language.
  • Physical development.
  • Literacy.
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the world.
  • Expressive arts and design.

RE, Computing skills, aspects of Literacy and Numeracy are taught as distinct subjects.  Subject coverage is blocked into meaningful units of work where appropriate.  We adopt a flexible approach to timetabling so that we allocate sufficient time to study areas in the appropriate depth.  Planning, preparation and assessment time allocated to class teachers across the week is used to enhance the curriculum through specialist teaching in French,  PE, Music and Computing.
